: I was mowing with my tractor and do to my own carelessness : I hit the clutch to stop, and my momentum carried me up a large : mound of dirt, which my frontloader rammed into. In this position : unable to get out of first gear. Fortunately my hand clutch works : well and I was able to disengage the pto. I had to get my truck and : winch the tractor back enough so I could turn into my pasture and drive : back to the shed. It will still not come out of first gear. : Did my momentum jam the shifting fork in 1st? I also need help getting the : cover off below the shift lever, my technical shop manual is worthless for : lay people. Mr. Jim, that's not carelessness, the transmission shouldn't have done that under any normal circumstances. It most likely is excessively worn shifter and/or transmission parts. I suggest removing the top cover of the transmission complete with the shifter lever still intact and straightening it back out by hand. You might check for worn lugs, shifter lever, forks etc. while you're looking in it. When you look down in it you'll see what neutral ought to look like. Just move the lugs and forks until you get it out of gear. Possibly when you replace the cover it won't happen again for a long time, hopefully. As far as removing the cover, I think there are only six bolts and the shift lever can stay in the cover for that. No need to mess with it unless you see it's worn, bent or broken. In that case it should be replaced and there is only a pin that holds it in the cover. Hope this helps. Have a good day sir. John
