Dhermesc - There is some truth to your logic, but where you lose BIG TIME on especially a GM car is resale. I bought a brand new 1999 Chevy Lumina sedan, pretty much loaded, about a $36,000 car IIRC. Thing sounded like you were riding in a tin can, started falling apart on the test drive. Put 80,000 miles on it in 50 months. Traded it for a brand new $45,000 Mercury Mountaineer. They allowed me about $4000 in trade for that Chevy. Car had new tires, new brakes, looked like and ran like new, would have easily run another 80,000 miles. I could have RENTED a car cheaper than what owning that piece of junk cost me. Last GM anything you will ever see me in.
I have a 2006 Volvo S40 that is about ready to be "Totalled" when I have to replace the two frt tires and they will cost about what Kelly Blue Book value of the car is.
Meanwhile my 1996 F-250 4wd diesel pickup is still worth about 1/3rd of sticker price. 22 years old and 300,000 miles.

This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule.
