Actually if you are figuring out how much you have invested per acre for putting in and harvesting a crop you have to know how much fuel you burn per acre. Also GPH isn't really a good measure. If lets say I'm trying to tell someone who's not familiar with farming that I have a machine that uses 25 gallons of fuel every hour how are they to understand just how much work is getting done? Kinda a 1/2 truth too. 25 GPH sounds like a lot of fuel. But I have a tractor that sips about 2.5 GPH. Yet doing heavy tillage burns about 2.1 gallons per acre. So GPH is not an accurate measure of cost of operation.
