Now you need an 8 volt battery charger. Fix the connections and clean up the 6 volt starter, give it new bearings and brushes and 6 volts will do just fine. You can't charge an 8 volt battery with an automatic 6 or 12 volt charger. Only with a manual charger made to ignore battery voltage where you check the specific gravity of the battery with a hydrometer and control the manual charger that way. Which is way to much bother for most of us.
