Super A Battery Question

I am in the process of restoring a Super A. Someone told me to use a 8-Volt battery, to help turn it over faster. Is this Ok with the electrical system. Is it ok to charge it up with a 6-volt battery charger? I have a 12V battery charger, and it doesn't seem to charge the battery correctly, so I stopped.
