Don't know if you've ever had to keep your leg elevated a lot, but one of the "fun" things I remember from my experience is when I would let my leg down and all the blood would rush back into it again. Boy, oh boy! At first it made me come unglued!!
Be sure to follow the doctors orders....TO THE LETTER! You're no spring chicken like I was, so it'll likely be a workout in patience getting back on your feet again. Take your time and do it slowly. ...And you got lots of time before that part happens!
