I answered an ad in the local paper today regarding an Oliver super 55. It was listed for $1800. It was about a 1 1/2 hour drive away. I asked the owner a few questions. "How are the hydraulics?" He replied, "Good, everything works ok. I then said, "How about the sheet metal?" He told me the front had been smashed in but he thought it could be repaired. "How are the fenders?", was my next question. He said there was a lip where tire chains had done some damage. My final question was, "How is the oil pressure?" to which he replied, "You're asking too many questions for an $1800 tractor!" He then hung up on me. Later in the day I went to the local tractor salvage to pick up a radiator I had called about a week earlier. I had been quoted a price of $175 exchange. At that time, I told him that since I had bought the tractor without the radiator, I didn't have a core. The salesperson replied, "Well figure an extra ten bucks then." Upon arriving at the business, the owner showed me the radiator and pointed to a list of radiator prices with $175 crossed out and $185 written above it. When I explained what I had been quoted over the phone, he said, "I'm not selling this radiator for a penny less than $185 and I want TWENTY bucks for a core! He then spun around stuck the radiator on the shelf and walked away from me. My question is this, Should I expect attitudes like this in the tractor hobby or am I just HAVING A BAD DAY?
