If the shifter doesn't move into 2nd and 3rd position then it is probably a stuck detent ball or sliding gear, likely due to rust.If the lever goes into place but the tractor doesn't move in those gears that would seem to indicate a broken or missing fork or missing rail assembly or something like that. It's not a huge job to pull the top deck and repair or replace the shifter rails and forks as needed, but it's a bit time consuming. You can pull the belt pulley or block off plate and look in there to see what is happening and look at the condition of the gears and shifting mechanism. Zach
