H platforms and shift assemblies are plentiful and taking the top cover off of the transmission is fairly easy. Also, less money than cleaning up and repainting along with getting better tires. If the seller is willing to do the swap then all the better for you. If not maybe you can work a compromise on price and changing the cover would give you some beyond the manual experience in shop work. The bolts often have poor heads and are rusted in. A trick mentioned here is to mig weld a nut to the top of the bolt head which not only gives a fresh surface for a socket but also provides heat down into the threads oxidizing rust. Worst case scenario is the head breaks off the bolt when applying torque so you have to weld another nut on after the cover is out of the way. Not a bad job and allows to look inside to see if there is an impending problem like a chipped tooth or sloppy bearing.
