I've the need to till what I consider a "large garden", to mow a one acre pasture, (with no current animals), that has a small motocross track within, and occasionally need to push snow from a paved driveway. I figure that something with a live PTO and 3 point lift for a tiller and bushhog/cycle mower will do with a back blade for the snow. On a limited budget, I'd like to go with a running/usable antique that I could restore. Some have told me to stay away from the Fords since they don't go slow enough for tilling. Restoration parts for the JD's and Cases seem to be spendy... I see that the smaller three wheeled units of the 40's/50's are often cheaper. But that would negate my future wants... Not out of the question for a start though. I'd eventually want something with a front loader bucket so hydraulics and power steering are a must for a possible different tractor down the road. I'd be interested in advice from you veterans for a small tractor that would fit my needs/wants. Although I'm a computer geek by trade. I am an experienced back yard mechanic having restored Ford Mustangs and other hotrods in the past. A tractor or two for a project would be a nice change.

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
