Thye Muir Hill was superior to the County in some ways, it had a far better turning circle. Mind you it was a heck of a climb into the cab. Based on the Ford 5000 originally with a Ford 2703 E industrial engine. One of our customers had a gear box fail so I was given the job of splitting it and putting new gears and bearings in it. Had to split it at the clutch and the rear drop box. Got it all back together and took it out on test only to find a loud clatter in 4th gear and 8th gear. Could not work out what the problem was so had to strip it out again. Then found the store man had issued me with the wrong gears, she had been built just as Ford changed the gearbox in 1968 which had a different profile on the gear teeth. If I am honest I liked the County and the Roadless better than the Muir Hill as they were straight through to the rear axle without the drop box which could give trouble. Muir Hills are still being built to order.

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
