Well I'm not much of a Massey man but sounds like selinoid problems to me. The selinoids I know weren't always mounted on the starter (not sure on massey's). If not there, follow the wiring and see if you can find one mounted somewhere else. The clicking noise may well be coming from selinoid wherever it is, so maybe you can follow the sound. I have checked starters out by taking a pair of jumper cables and jump from battery to starter, bypassing everything, just briefly to make sure starter is good. I just thought of something else. Maybe your gear shift actuating the starter might eliminate the selinoid explaining why it is not on starter. If there is a bad connection on a set up like that, then maybe that would be an area to check. Well good luck to ya and keep us posted.
