The problem i see with your post is, that all the mfg's. just put bids out, and get an oil made for them. I some times stop at a GM dealer and let them change my oil. If i tell them 10w30 they use GM oil that they have in bulk, (Mobil at the moment) and if i tell them 5w30, no problem, they go to their parts dept. and get it out of cans, and it's Quaker State. Do you think they would change brands "IF" it would hurt the cars they put it in??? A lot of these cars are on warranty, and GM or any other mfg. would not put oil in their engines that would cause them problems.
Over the years GM has had several mfg's. make their oil, so really you need to use the right spec. oil not so much a certain brand. I still don't think changeing oil brands is a big deal, and it has proven out in my own expierence, and the expierence of my extended family, who do own brand new cars, on down to older cars. I'm probably the last one of them who still changes my own oil on a reg. basis. Most of them stop where it's convinent, and aren't brand conscience at all.
I'm not saying a particular engine won't use more of one brand oil than another, but i am saying i don't believe one brand will cause rapid wearing (or wear out) of an engine just because it has had another brand in it since new.
