When I was in high school I worked in a gas station run by a couple of good ol boys. I was 5'9" and 250lbs. and they nicknamed me Beachball. I would of probably protested but my coworkers daughter was 3 and was so cute when she called me that I let it ride. The name had pretty much disappeared by the time I was twenty one. That's when I joined the local vol. fire dept. with my former coworker. Almost all Firefighters have nick names. It was revived. About the time I became Chief we had a lot of next generation firefighters that grew up calling me beachball.and they pretty much quit calling me that. Now there's just a few old friends that call me that. Often wondered if I should have it put on my headstone.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
