The grass is always greener.... ;) I'm farming, & really just moved into the '70s (I mean 1970s - I'm about 1/2 that in age...) with my equipment. My arms are wore out, my back always hurts from the bumpy ride, I've breathed my share of dirt.... Ah, but I like it. I really do. Ecconomics & government regulations will soon take me out. My way of farming will be gone. Only the small nitche farmers (like the 8 acre fellow someone mentioned) or the very, very large farms will be able to survive under the govt regulations. Manure disposal plans, chemical, manure, fuel handling applications; fuel, manure, chemical containment systems; specific tillage practices (can't use the $700 plow I bought, need to use a $7000 ripper, which means my $600 cultivator won't work, need a $3000 one, and the $2500 planter won't work, need a $6000 one that handles the trash....). And so on. The very large farms can spread the above over thousands of acres, maybe ad $5 an acre. Me, I'd be spending an extra $200 an acre - like that could happen! Think govt won't get you too? Around my county they are limiting some folks to 7 head of cattle total, OR put in an $80,000 manure containment system. Gravel from the driveway is viewed as a pollution source to be controlled.... It's coming. The govt knows best.... --->Paul

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
