This debate is as good as green vs red. That said I will tell you some FACTS about my experiences with both. My brother has a 98 Dodge 2500 4X4 with the Cummins. It now has around 95k miles on it. He consistently makes 18 to 23 miles per gallon on the highway. Fully loaded he can make about 15 mpg. The Cummins will start all the way down to 20 below zero F, trust me, the circuit breaker tripped when we plugged it in one time and it was 15 to 20 below all weekend and it started on Sunday night. I will admit that from a dead stop, the Powerstroke will take the cake, but look at what you are dealing with here, a 5.9 liter inline six compared to a 7.3 liter V-8. History has proved the V-8 will be snappier. BUT the inline 6 will last longer, why do you think that's what they have in over the road trucks and farm tractors? As far as engine differences, the Dodge Cummins has gear driven components within the engine, the Ford has a chain drive. Ford is fully electronic injection while the Dodge remains mechanical, and personally I like the mechanical. One word of warning here, this information is for the early 98 and previous Cummins, the 12-valve. New 24 valve will perform better at the cost of some gas mileage. As for the Power Stroke, I personally do not like, my cousin has one. Louder than the Cummins, makes only about 15 on the highway, 12 loaded if your lucky. And my cousin and his dad each bought new ones and ran them 60k miles and they rattled a plug out somewhere in the engine, filled the crankcase with antifreeze and blew both engines! These people don't drive hard and they take care of their vehicles, of course they pull with them, that's what their meant to do. I've heard of more of them not making it past 75k miles, why?? Don't know. Both Ford and Dodge have their problems, as does Chevy. If I had a million dollars I guess I would try the Duramax as I am upset with both Ford and Dodge right now because the new Dodge pickup is ugly and our Fords are pieces of S***. Drive them both and you decide. Steven

Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father
