I've driven diesel pickups since 1982. In late 96, I ordered a Dodge/Cummins 2500 2wd with auto. I've got 145,000 on this truck now, and it still feels like a new one. I got 80,000 out of the first set of tires, shocks, & front pads. (Still on the original rear shoes) Right after I got it, I put on a 230HP TST fuel stop plate & boost orfice. Later I slid the plate forward 1/16", and on a floor dyno, it is now putting 278 HP to the ground. Still no problems with trans or drive line. It's been the best vehicle I've ever owned in 35 years of driving, period. The only thing I've had to do was spend $90.00 on an upgraded steering shaft at 85k, and the fuel lift pump started leaking about the same time, but was replaced free with an upgraded pump on the 1000k/5yr Cummins part of the warranty. I put 75 miles on this truck every day of the year, and intend on keeping it. Too good still to thing about trading or selling it. In comparison, my 84 Chevy 6.2 was completely, totally worn out by 100k, excpt for the engine, which was still like new. It's not unusual to hear reports on the www.turbodieselregister.com site about these trucks going over a million miles with out taking the pan or the head off. The engines seem to run forever, & will naturally out live most of the rest of the truck. I had a dealer in Council Grove,KS tell me "When you wear the truck out, take the engine out & put it on your irrigation pump". Case-IH & several other companies use a version of the same engine in tractors, and you can always get your filters there! Ever seen a tractor with a "Powerstroke" engine?
