I don't know what goes through the mind of a toddler... but here's what I see my grandson playing with. The one w/ the faces... he sticks their nose in his mouth then trows it on the floor. The ERTL Ford 640... sticks the front tires in his mouth then trows it on the floor. His favorite... which does not get eatn or throwed (much) is a cardboard box w/ a (very) crude crayon drawing of the old Ford. I never did like the "cutesy" toys. They are purchased by Mom & Grandma... Not Grandpa. Women buy stuff like that. Thats why the toy mfg make it. If they were marketing to gramps... the toys would look more real. (I bought the ERTL). So, I think it has more to do w/ sales that reality. Maybe the toy designers were all city kids & don't know what a real tractor looks like!
