I really don't think very many of them will be dead from a computer failure. Those units rarely fail. What does tend to fail is the mechanical bits around them. From engines with wiped bearings to transmissions with stripped teeth. Computer boxes tend to be reliable. Many of the components that can, and do, fail can be replaced repaired or worked around. Air flow sensors can be repaired if you're willing to remove the non-removable cover to service the no serviceable parts inside. An alternative fuel injector can be cobbed up to work. Non-available clutches can be rebuilt. Etc, etc. Computers and electronics have been in automobiles for decades now, and many old cars are still going fine. Albet, not necessarily in oem trim. For example, if the extremely expensive electronic ignition systems goes out on my Fiat, it gets replaced with a much cheaper Pertronix system. If the catalytic converter plugs up, it gets gutted or removed. A Bosch fuel injection system can be fitted up to any gasoline engine known to man (including a little Briggs if one wants). Now, is the machine itself worth the effort and possible expense of doing this? That is a different question entirely.

The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
