They are very good tractors, and generally those transmissions are pretty bullet proof. I had a FWA 7140 with around 12,000 hours on it when I sold it and never had any major issues with it while I owned it. Bad paint is normal if it’s stood outside or been pressure washed a lot. I ended up re painting mine to make it look better. 4 speed reverse is better. Earlier tractors had 2 speed reverse. Drive it and check every gear is there. It’ll shift hard between two gears, but that’s normal. I can’t remember which two it is now….10th and 11th maybe. The shift accumulators are by the cab steps. I used to take mine off and take them to Case and get them re charged every couple of years. They are easy to spin off and I think need about 130 - 140 psi of nitrogen in them. They have tire type valves so take a tire pressure gauge when you look at it and check them. It’ll probably rattle pretty bad at the back end when it’s standing idling. Don’t worry too much about that, they all seem to do it. It’s the PTO gears I think. I’d say 30k is ok with 7000hrs (not sure what the scraper is worth). If it’s rough looking you might want to factor in paint etc. The panels are mostly fiberglass and plastic, and kinda pricey from the dealer if they are cracked or broken. Obviously check tire condition. It’s probably got 42’s on the back. Chris

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
