I have no way of knowing what quality diodes autozone uses, but assuming poor diodes is not the problem. Do you use the Mazda to boost start large Diesel engines? It's Ok to hook up the cables and use a small rig to charge the diesel batteries, but if the diesel battery is low dont try to start it. That 1000+ amp load will really hammer a small pickup battery and alternator. Is the alternator loose in the mounting bracket? The rapping vibration of a loose mount will kill diodes in an alternator. If your rebuilt alternator comes without the pulley, do you use an impact wrench to change the pulley? All alternator rebuilders say not to use an impact wrench on the pulley as the vibration can destroy diodes. Have you taken any of the failed alternators apart to see if the diodes show signs of high temperature( Melting or discoloring, burned off leads or melted solder on button diodes) Overheated diodes usually mean the alternator has run a long time at too high a charge rate,or the cooling passages are plugged preventing normal cooling. Good luck and post what you find.
