Alternators showed up on military vehicles in the early 50s, with a large external rectifier/regulator package.
Leece Neville owned the market for large truck, fire trucks and emergency vehicles starting around 52, external sylenium rectifier pack and regulator pack seperate from the rectifier.
I still have a couple of the 12 volt alternators.
