Thanks Franz,That sounds exactly like what was on that 58 Ford truck. The farmer next to me had an ex power company pickup with the big Leese Nevil alternator with built in rectifiers but had the old mech regulator with a cutout like a generator needs.By the mid 80 it was very hard to get regulators for this setup,and the rebuilder refused to rebuild his old regulator after about the 5th time. The regulator cutout seemed like an unnessary feature because the built in rectifier blocked any return flow of power into the alternator. We fitted it with a standard Delco regulator for the external regulator Delco alternators. This worked trouble free for many years.
