Well one thing is pretty clear: Wisconsin LOVES an old tractor! With the auction fees and the state collecting their share, the Twin City was just shy of 2 grand, starting to be serious money. At least for me. There must have been something extra special about that Fordson, because in my area they change hands for around $500. At the sale I went to, same day, an 8N that started right up, minute you pushed the starter button--and smoothed out to a nice idle, couldn't fetch $550. Lots of new parts on it. Of course the sheetmetal looked like it had been reworked with a jackhammer, so that might have had something to do with it. A good Farmall 640 on nice rubber, started and ran well, could barely fetch $1200. Looked like a really nice tractor, I would have bought it if I needed one. Sounds like collectors got wind of the Wisconsin sale and came ready to buy. A lot of old iron saved from the crusher. Looks like a sale I would have enjoyed.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
