Is there a rule of thumb how far down the side of the tire the tire chains should go? I’m gonna be making my own I’ve got a bunch of old semi tire chains I’m gonna put together tedious but cheaper than buying chains. I’m trying to make them fit both 15.5 x 38 and 18.4 x 38. After measuring the tire I think the 15.5 should be about 24 inches wide And the 18.4 should be about 28 inches wide. So I was going to make them 28 inches to fit both. Does anybody know if I’m way off on this? Length isn’t too big and issue if too long just fasten them up. I’d like to see pictures of what other people use.
