Black squirrels made it to the White House, and all through DC, via Canada. In 1902 the sec of the Smithsonian requested that several black squirrels be sent from Canada,through an animal exchange program with Canada, to the US. There were no black squirrels in the US as far south as DC at that time. Squirrels were sent as requested and released at the National Zoo. From less than 20 squirrels we now see black squirrels all over Wash, DC. There is a bar in Wash named "The Black Squirrel".
