I bought a new Frontier in 2016. SV package with auto transmission and a 6 foot bed (long bed). I have 57000+ on it now.
I bought it for all the "wrong" reasons. The design is old. It is still a naturally aspirated 4.0L V-6. There aren't a ton of technology gizmos, but it does link to my phone for hands free. It uses an old school frame and I believe it is a 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive (5 speed?).
I didn't want or need a ton of technology gizmos. I don't need Wi-Fi in my truck. I didn't want the latest 10 speed transmission. I didn't want a small 4 cyl engine with an expensive turbo. I didn't want the latest "best new thing" available in a truck. I considered Toyota (and I believe the Tacoma is a good truck), but I didn't want to pay the extra for all the latest greatest stuff in any of the new truck designs because at the end of the day, capability in those trucks is similar enough they would all do everything I need to do with a truck.
So, for me, Nissan had been building this truck long enough to work the bugs out (earlier models had trouble with transmission cooler lines in the radiator corroding and putting coolant in the transmission), and there wasn't a bunch of "new" stuff that would get in my way. Tons of parts available. I compromised fuel mileage and some technology gizmos for proven design.
The turning radius does leave much to be desired. Ride is adequate. I do wish it was bigger because it has become our family go to town vehicle. I do wish it got a little better fuel mileage (17-19 range depending on speed). I wish the oil filter was easier to get to. Aside from that, I'm happy and I would buy it again. I might consider a manual transmission, but I do like the auto.
