Alow me to introduce myself. I grew up in the small farming community of Sycamore in North Florida. I can name every tractor used on the farm and my learning to drive them beginning in the age of five. Having said that, I've recently bought a long-not used and in need of restoration 1964 Ford 4000, four cylinder, four forward speed w/reverse Diesel farm tractor. This tractor has what appears to be a gear range selector lever on the left side of the transmission/gear train housing, just to the rear of the engine, and just under and to the rear of the battery box. In all the pictures I've seen and the technical/maintenance/owner's manuals I've researched, none show, indicate or have any information regarding what this lever does. At this time, the tractor is not running. I'm asking for any information, and sources, to identify what this lever activates and what its function may be. It is moveable in what appears to be two distinct positions. It feels/sounds like internal gears are meshing. THANKS for any input to "learn" me what this does and its, if any uniqueness.
