You mentioned the steers going crazy. Pa told a story from back in the 30’s. Pa’s home farm was about 2 miles south of town opposite old #52. Pa was able to play football in high school and because the school was in the center of town the football was practiced and played in the flat part of Theisen’s cow pasture west of the creek on the west end of town. Pa was in his last year (I believe he went 12) when he finally got Grandpa talked into coming to watch a game. Pa was anxious and excited and when it was over he rushed to get Granpa’s thoughts on the game. Grandpa said “it’s like when we put the calves out on spring pasture. They run from one end to the other with tails in the air, running and jumping, and butting heads.”
