After having a come back with the tranny shop in town, I started doing my own. Don't skimp. Put a master repair kit in them so you know what you got. You will have to find a way to compress those clutch pack springs to get down to the seals. Any filings in the pan & filter gets a new converter. If somebody else figured out how to build it & make it work, you should be able to take it all apart & get it back together again. How else are you going to learn?
