No series parallel switch on original. The generator and starter were 24 volt. There was effectively to separate 12 volt Systems for the lights and fuel gauge. one battery was connected positive to chassis and the other one was connected negative to chassis. Someone has converted the tractor in question so they could use a 12 volt negative ground alternator and retain the 24 volt starter. I installed a power block in a 46 JD A with a 6 volt system and had to use two 6 volt batteries with a series parallel switch to start it. That 6 volt generator was hard pressed to charge the batteries. After converting to a 12 volt generator and a single 12 volt battery things worked better.
