Most Bosch VE rotary pumps have an orifice in the RETURN line banjo bolt, and SOME NH machines return bolt/cap assemblies had a small valve in the bolt. Sometimes that valve will stick, USUALLY from internal parts wear inside the pump that makes it's way toward the return line. Several cold start/run advance systems have been used, and the most common problems are with the advance housing/solenoid models that have TWO small steel lines attached. There's a small C clip that will break inside, USUALLY caused by running out of fuel, or filter plugged. Then, the advance will hammer loudly when fuel starved as air gets into advance area, eventually breaking the C clip. There's also a chance the X drive plate between the cam plate and drive shaft tangs has one "ear" broken, that will make a clicking noise while running, but engine USUALLY won't accelerate when that happens. I saw that on a Case/IH three cylinder VE pump a couple years ago.
