Thankyou all for your replies. As you state it seems that there is a lack of vacuum behind the govenor diaphram. As I removed the petrol mix from the injector pump only by opening the bleed screw and flushing with clean diesel it seems unlikely that a pipe connection is the cause. Therefore I assume that it could be a leaking diaphram. As far as I know this has never been changed since the tractor was new. Could a leak have been caused by the engine revving and backfiring? Also is there a way of checking for diaphram(or pipe) leakage without disassembling the pump/govener? I have the appropriate fordson major repair manual and can follow this to the best of my ability although it is a little complicated in the injector pump section.(pages 74 to 98) And I do not have the specialised tools necessary for reassembling and callibrating the injector pump. Any advice much appreciated. Cheers JRG1.
