10,000 miles? What manufacturer advises oil changes at 10,000 miles? I know a lot of manufacturers that tried to go 5000 miles and figured out it didn't work. The Variable valve timing in most modern engines requires clean oil to work properly - I would never go past 4000 miles on an engine with variable valve timing. The average oil change costs me about $20 to $25 or about 1/2 a cent a mile if changed at 4000 miles. That is extremely cheap compared to the operating costs of a car per mile. I don't see anyone getting rich off me at 1/2 a cent per mile.
