Seems I've heard this before, somehow the trigger is on wrong, upside down, something assembled wrong so the fire happens when the rotor is between cap terminals.
Look at where the spark is happening, either look at the position of the trigger and coil or rotate the housing opposite the way the rotor turns until it fires, see where the rotor is in relation to the terminals.
If you can't get it, call Pertronox customer service, I hear they are very helpful.
