My first tractor was a Case 430, I bought at a neighbours retirement auction. The neighbour was a close friend of my dad. He stopped in one day and told me he knew that I had just started farming, and money was tight. But to just go ahead and buy anything I wanted at his auction, and we would talk about how I was going to pay for it later. So it was 1981, and interest rates were right around 20% . I bought the tractor for $2,000.00. The fella said take it home, and Ill drop in next week. When he stopped by, I told him I had $1,000.00 and I could give him a $100.00 each month for the next ten months, he said that was fine. It was a great little tractor!
