An M doesn't need zinc. The valve springs have nowhere near the tension of high performance engines and the original oil back in the 1950s never had it as part of the additive package either - most were using nondetergent oil with minimal refining. Any modern quality 10W30, 10W40 or 15W40 engine oil will work fine in the 1950s and older machines. They were made to run on low octane fuel and have a very low compression ratio. They are a product of their era when fuel and oil were not that great and farmers were pinching every penny they could. Many of these tractors were being maintained by men that grew up using horses and mules for HP and the technology employed was geared towards their abilities. What is amazing is how stout these machines are and how common it is to see a 60-90 year old tractor still running today with minimal maintenance. Cars and trucks of the same era are rare and treated with kid gloves to keep running as playthings and entertainment - let alone used as they were meant to be used.
