I have recently bought a house and with it came a Massey Ferguson 135, an early model from the 1960's or so, tried to find the serial number, no success I think it was on the bottom part of the instrument panel and that is missing... I would like to get it running because then it can snowplow our driveway, it has a 101A Davis front loader with a dozer. It did run in November though, the former owners moved it and parked it as far from the house as possible :(. When I came here in December it was buried in snow. Anyway, I have a question and I hope someone can help me! I dug the tractor out, checked the basics (fluids etc) and found that a knob with a metal rod I think it is the shut-off control rod? has come loose, as in, the end of the rod is not attached anymore. Does it go to the injector pump and where it the injector pump situated? The rod hangs off to the left side of the engine seen from the drivers seat. I don't dare to start it because I'm not sure I will be able to shut it off once it is running. I think I need to push the knob in to do that. All said, I am not sure if it is a diesel or gas engine, the fuel smells like diesel and feels greasy, but maybe that can also be because of additives in the fuel. I love tractors, always have since I was a child, so I do not want to give up. Please look at the pictures they can explain it better than I do.

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
