Wet sleves made in one piece attached to alate on top called a deck plate. You pull it and you can see every bit of the inside of the block. I am not positive how the sleeves fit at bottom but am thinking sealed with an o ring that is starting to fail. I dought that the sleeve is going to rust out or crack as they are heavy cast if I rember correctly about a half inch thick..The deck plate was not avaible new years ago but was substituted with the 165 deck olate used on later engins. That same engine was used in the 1019 but with a deck plate of 115 CU In. and the 115 engine was used on the 40 combine, the 145 on the late round back 45 combine and the 165 version was used on the earlu square back 45 combine. So thinking it probably is a 60 year old O ring starting to fail and if it is that all that would be needed would be new o rings and deck plate and head gasket. Post just a few days ago on combine section same problem as this. This assumes it is a gas engine and not a deisel that I know nothing about. I had 2 late RB and 1 early SQ BC 45 combines. Late Square back uses a 180 cu in engine that was entirely different. Parts book will tell if an O ring in there. My books not avaiblenow.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
