I just read a piece in a book called the Antique Tractor Bible that talks to what you are asking. It says a lot of the same things I read on the postings. It suggests if you think the tractor you have may have used Non-detergent oil to make the change to detergent oil a gradual one. At every oil change substitute one quart of Detergent oil for Non-detergent oil until all the oil is detergent oil. This will help to not cause an over abbundence of gunk floating in the oil all at once.
