I would ask a few questions of myself, first. Do you have a tractor in mind? It might be best to choose a smaller, more common machine, with readily available parts and advice sources. Then again, maybe not. Then, do you have the tools and space available for extended periods of time? Maybe, maybe not. Then, do you have the money and time to devote to a pastime for which many will advise that you are utterly wasting your time and resources? Maybe not. Or, do you have the tenacity to look at a problem or part for the umpteenth time, while reading an incomplete and sometimes incomprehensible technical manual, with all sorts of advice that would work in any other circumstance other than yours? Maybe, maybe not. Oh, yeah, it will also be too hot or too cold to be messing with the thing at that time, and there will always be other "more productive" things that really do need doing, and it's getting late, and someone's mad that you are always out there and not paying attention and you smell like the bottom of a fuel drum.... Have you made a decision whether to repair, as opposed to restoring, this tractor? It's best to know beforehand what result you are expecting, so that you can declare victory at some point in the future.... I suppose that if all these matters are settled, then go to it...find one, clean it, bring it home (in that order, please), and start somewhere not too big, nor too dangerous. Safety is the most important aspect of this entire adventure, because it's not nearly as fun if sacrifice of life/limb is required for completion. Good Luck!
