I had this problem with the 5 speed in my 861. I took it to the vo-tech school for repair. They wanted to replace the gears, because they were worn off on the sides, and that let them have some side flop. The gear teeth were excellent. I told them to just add shims to remove the end play, and to bring it back to specs. They reluctantly agreed to try it, and it has been working like a charm ever since. Hasn't jumped out of gear even once, and it has probably been about 8 or 10 years.
