Hi JW, I enjoyed reading your post. A chunk of iron has a COG for sure, but hooking a chain on it and pulling it doesnt change that irons COG. What is changed is that the force that iron is putting on the sled chain is counter acted by an equal but opposaite force pulling back on it (read my ramblings below back to al). To achieve a better pull via more traction, you want that reactive force pulling straight down (vertical) on your axles instead of backwards horizontal. Like you said, hitching up high and close helps achieve that but, in my opinion at least, its more due to reactive chain force than shifting any COG. Hope this helps us all, Im not intending to be disagreeable or a smart aleck or anything, just respectfully voicing my opinion on here where I have received help and enjoy helping others.
