Eric, where at in Indiana, Im in Bloomington. I agree wuth your theory and its another thing to point out there are so many variables, its hard to state any one hard and fast rule. The JDs do have terrific power surges with only two cylinders and thats exactly why they had to be overbuilt brute strength wise in order to withstand the hard high torque surges. You are right they sort of jerk the wheels with each cylinder firing as compared to the smooth more fluid like constant torque produced by a six cylinder. Vibration in the tires is indeed a power robber and thats why pullers want things balanced. Again though, your theory, while correct, is one among the many subtle differences that seperate winners and loosers but another inhertent disadvantage the JD's have to overcome. Dont get me wrong though, I love em and like to see them win and they sure can, but there are some engineering things that have to be overcome in that two cylinder engine. Have a good one.
