As the others have pointed out, you definately need an overruning clutch. What they haven't told you is that it's no big deal, about $50 bucks or less. The assembly is about 6 or 8 inches long, attaches directly on the pto shaft without tools, and has a spline shaft out the back for the slasher's pto shaft to hook on to. It has a ratchet mechanism inside that allows the slasher to freewheel when you push your clutch in. It will have a grease zerk that will need a shot of grease regularly. They are readily available at most tractor dealers and via mail order from just about all of the tractor supply houses that I've seen. I'm not sure what size spline your tractor has (old tractors have a slightly smaller pto spline shaft that requires a bushing to bring it up to the modern size, I think it's 1 3/8". I belive you can get overrunning clutchs that also act as crossovers from the small spline size to the large. You also need to make sure you specify that you are using a 540 rpm pto spline configuration), so you need to make sure you get the right size. You can leave it on the tractor permanantly, as it won't interfer with other implements. Only problem you might face is that the pto shaft on the slasher may be too long. The usual fix for that is a few minutes work with a hacksaw.
