Radios on open tractors are marginal at best. Suggest you get a Sony Walkman type like the joggers use and forget about, 6 vs 12 and pos ground vs neg ground. If you are concerned about hearing things beside the radio, just use one ear phone. You could even go CD rather than radio if you like. Have fun with the field work
