I have a couple of lathes, a small milling machine, and a few drill presses and assorted other lesser tools. I make a lot of small parts for myself and a few for friends. I haven't done much for money-- yet. As someone else mentioned when I retire (hopefully in the not too distant future) I may try to get into it a little more for others. I don't think there would be much money in it. Especially if you are like me, not a pro machinist, but someone who has picked it up. I would do it for the fun and interest, maybe the cash would help pay for some of my other projects, but I don't see making any real money. Most of what I do is bore out pullys, cut keys in shafts, turn down an end of a shaft, make bushings, bronze and other. Yesterday for instance I was into a hydraulic jack that had bound up. Turns out the plastic bushing that guides the bottom of the piston had somehow grown and was too big for the bore. I turned a arbor that would just push into the inside of the bushing and then turned .005 or so off the od of the bushing. This is typical of the things I do. I would like to find or make a small shaper to use to cut internal keys and maybe gears at some point. I know I won't get to making one until I can retire, who knows, a small one may come along before then.

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
