These guys are right, you're not going to dig a tank with a backhoe unless you've just retired and need a project to keep you busy for the next 20 years until you die. You already said you would hire it done and that's the best. A person doesn't simply go out, dig a hole in the ground, and hope to catch a little water. Drainage, the site, the dam and spillway are what makes a tank and not the size of the hole. Secondly, I've never seen a tank dug with anything but a dozer. It's simply the best way to go. I have cleaned out tanks with a scraper, but from the start a dozer is best. There is certainly someone around who can build you a great tank at a relatively low price......
