Mike I repair fiberglass boats , FRP fiber reinforced plastic. you are going about it the right way , do an inside layup with Matt I use 1 3/4oz matt let it harden then go to the outside and grind off all the fractured fiberglass and do the amount of layups to bring it back to original thickness. just remember to do a neat and smoth job so there is less sanding and less "fiber mites" to ich over.
