If you are using polyester resin(which I assume you are)it is pretty easy to work with. I would put the matting on the inside and use a couple of sucessive layers of woven cloth on the outside. On the outside I would start with 181 weight cloth and end up with 121 weight. Make the first layer the exact dimension(filler)as your repair area and overlap the last 2 or three by 1/4 inch or so. Make sure you work all bubbles and air pockets out. One little trick I use to finish the outside is to take a razor blade and scrape the finish before it dries completely. If you need to do any finish work, take some ground fiberglass and mix it with resin to make a paste and use that instead of bondo. I think you would get a neater job.
